Everyone is proud, but nobody is surprised. Moneysense has once again named Burlington the #1 medium-sized city in Canada, for the 4th straight year! If you lived here, you’d be #1 right now!
Every year, Moneysense Magazine ranks Canada’s big, small and medium-sized cities to help Canadians make an informed choice on where to live, retire or raise a family. They factor in nearly everything, including unemployment levels, income levels, crime rates and access to education.
And, for the 4th straight year, their numbers proved what we already knew: Burlington is the best medium-sized city in Canada, and the second overall behind Ottawa. This year, we even climbed a spot. In 2015, we were ranked 3rd overall behind Ottawa and Boucherville, Que. This year, Boucherville slipped to 5th overall.
Why is Burlington So Amazing?
Moneysense wrote that a great city, “should be prosperous, but affordable. It should also be safe and easy to get around, with plenty of amenities. And nice weather helps, because who wants to wear a parka eight months of the year?”
Burlington did particularly well because of our high incomes, low unemployment rates, strong population growth, low crime, weather and healthy arts community. The article touted numbers like:

● Average Household Net Worth: $741,822
● Property Tax: 2.70%
● Total Days Above 24°C: 40.8
● Crime Rate Per 100,000: 4,373.03

Burlington and Oakville are the best Places to Raise Your Kids
At the same time, we were also named the third best place in canada to raise kids, falling just behind Oakville, Ont (which IS essentially the same area) and Blainville, Que.
Once again Burlington ranked high on the strength of numbers like:

● Population Under Age 15: 16.03%
